Our Story

Every great legacy begins with a simple spark. Long before the championship trophies, the structured rosters, and the reputation as one of the DMV area's premier cricket clubs, there was only a patch of grass, a group of friends, and an unconditional love for the game.

Over fifteen years ago, the foundation of Kurumbas Cricket Club was laid by just four friends: Jude, Nuwan, Asanga, and Kannah.

At the time, there were no grand ambitions of league dominance. They were playing for the sheer joy of the game, fueled by a simple passion to compete. The team was officially pulled together to enter a local 6-a-side tournament - a fast, high-energy format that demanded raw energy. They didn't have much, but they had an unbreakable bond and a shared drive to win.

As the years rolled on, the Kurumbas family began to grow. New faces stepped onto the boundary to shoulder the load. Players like Lucky, Kani, Nuwan Malli, Kevin, and Nirodha joined the ranks.

Though these brothers are no longer wearing the active club colors today, their sweat, dedication, and character are permanently woven into the fabric of our crest. They fought through the tough years, helped establish our competitive culture, and contributed massively to keeping the club alive when resources were thin.

We stand on the shoulders of these pioneers, and the club remains forever grateful for their sacrifice.

Success was not handed to the Kurumbas. In the early days, victories were hard-fought and rare. We took our lumps, suffered tough defeats on cold mornings, and had to learn the hard way what it took to win at a high level. But we never stopped turning up. We kept running in, kept backing each other, and kept believing in our collective strength.

After years of relentless persistence, we finally broke through to our very first tournament final.

We didn't walk away with the trophy that day - we finished as runners-up. Yet, that silver medal felt like our first monumental victory. It was the proof we needed that we belonged on the big stage. Instead of discouraging us, that final loss lit a raging fire under the squad. We didn't just want to compete anymore; we wanted to dominate.

From that first final onward, the trajectory of Kurumbas CC changed forever. We trained harder, refined our tactical focus, and clinical execution became our signature.

Years of sacrifice have paid off. Today, the Kurumbas Cricket Club cabinet is filled with multiple championship titles. Our active roster has expanded to over 20 elite players, drawing some of the finest talent from across the region.

But as we grew into a powerhouse, we never lost the soul of those four friends from fifteen years ago. We are no longer just a sports team - we are a family. From a humble 6-a-side debut to commanding the fields of the DMV, we remain incredibly proud of where we started, how we survived, and what we have built together.
